THE KING AND HIS KINGDOM - Matthew 10:34-39
MATTHEW 10:34 NASB 1995
"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."
1. WHERE DID HE COME FROM? - JOHN 1
2. WHO SENT HIM – JOHN 3:16
3. WHY DID HE COME – HE DID NOT COME TO BRING PEACE
THE SWORD IS A METAPHOR FOR SEPARATION
MATTHEW 10:35-36
35 For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36 and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.
WHEN CONFLICT COMES, WE ONLY RESPOND IN 3 WAYS
1 - STAND IN CONVICTIONS
2 - MAKE CONCESSION
3 - FULL BLOWN COMPROMISE
MATTHEW 10:37
"He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me;
and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me."
ANYONE YOU LOVE RIGHT NOW MORE THAN JESUS IS AN IDOL
JESUS WILL NOT COMPETE FOR YOU. HE WILL EITHER REMOVE THEM…OR STEP AWAY
MATTHEW 10:38
"And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me."
IF YOU SAW SOMEONE CARRYING A CROSS BACK THEN YOU KNEW 2 THINGS
o 1. THEY WERE GUILTY
o 2. THEY WEREN’T COMING BACK FROM THAT JOURNEY
WHAT IS YOUR CROSS? WHAT ARE YOU CARRYING? WHAT ARE YOU FULLY SURRENDERED TO?
MATTHEW 10:39
"He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it."
WHAT SIDE OF THE SWORD ARE YOU ON? THE SIDE OF DISCIPLESHIP OR COMPROMISE
